We need to find a new image ideal.

Women today have a very unrealistic body image to look up to. How are we supposed to be six feet tall and look like Barbie? It is just totally unattainable. This blog was created to try and help women in my life and anyone who stumbles across this blog read another article that supports real women. We come in all shapes and sizes and are all BEAUTIFUL! The battle against the thousands of ads we see with unrealistic body image is going to be a hard one, how many normal women do you see on tv? where is the average women represented? The answer is nowhere. So look to your right and to your left, the women sitting next to you on the bus, the women who helps you at the bank, your mother, and your friends, These are the real women. These are the women you can look to to realize that the ads you see arnt real.

I just want to continue to preach the message of self love, love yourself, because you are amazing, and you are gorgeous, and you are fabulous, and you are beautiful!

Hi, Brea,

There´s an ad campaign here in Brasil by Dove, that shows exactly what you want from the ads: real woman, some over weight, some with wrinkles, some with white hair...but what´s amazing is that this campaign is a hit because it´s differente, it´s not the establishment!
So, here we go: let´s Dove-a-nize the media!!!

abraços,

Fred

Preach it sisters!!!! Beauty is way way way more than skin deep. If you want a relationship that is fake and lifeless find someone that is obsessed with being someone they are not. Just be yourself and others will be attracted to you. Its more fun that way and less stressful. We are all unique and special and one of a kinds. And since the God created us in his own image loves each of us just the way he made us who are we to thumb our nose and try to come up with some other definition of a great image.

Right on Brea! Beauty starts on the inside and radiates out! Your body is just a container for your true beauty, and while you should take care of that container, don't do it just to satisfy some made-up perception of what corporate America thinks you should look like!

I definitely agree with what you're saying! I see a lot of girls and women get stressed due to their weight and images that are shown from the outside. That happens to me, too. I know that enough interest and care for your beauty can be good. But if that becomes too much, I experienced myself get depressed and loose confidence by comparing to others. Focusing on the beauty that each person has individualy and loving ourselves the way that we are.. Those will make women more beautiful!!!

Brea!

As a Sociology major I definitely understand where you are coming from. Outside of the few women's studies courses I have taken, there are many Sociology classes that touch on many similar topics. I hope you decide to do further research on this very broad but interesting topic!
